First part is going to be spoiler free:
Entertaining characters and a complex yet easy to follow plot made this a very good watch for me. Really powerful and unique themes that I really can’t recall from any other movies which is why I am confused this movie keeps getting called “bland.”
Minor spoilers (No real effect on the main story):
Really sad to see the uproar over a lesbian relationship that really plays no part in the movie besides existing. If that is a turn off for you, okay, but I would really re-evaluate why you harbor that much baseless hatred and why you choose that over enjoying a movie.
Major spoilers (whole plot of the movie including the ending):
The theme I really like about this movie is that it shows us what can happen if we don’t fix the flaws we have with in ourselves. Zerg ends up being buzz from the future who, like the main character Buzz, is set on getting his marooned crew back home. What separates the 2 Buzzes is that the current Buzz came to realize that even though the situation he is in wasn’t planned, it still is as good if not better than what it could have been since everyone but him now has a new life on this planet. Old Buzz never realized this and is obsessed with shaping reality back on the course he had planned and is willing to destroy the current reality to get there. Current Buzz has Zerg inside him, yet with reflection and support from those around him, he sees the error in having a 1 track mind and thus makes a better reality than planned since they create a new chapter of the Space Ranger Corp. It shows that mistakes can’t be taken back or erased but the resulting situation can still be positive if not better if managed properly.
