A broke Grant freed his slave, when he could have sold him for $1,000. I have watched the amazing Ken Burns' "Civil War" about 5x, grateful the History Channel is really digging in to US Grant. There is so much about him I did not know. The digital blue and red maps were incredible, and made it easier to more clearly understand some of the North and South battles.
