I found this movie to be very fresh and riveting. I will however state that this movie is not for everyone. If you’re looking for a movie that’s straight to the point, this is not for you. If you don’t like your movies with depth that will send you to Google afterwards this is not for you. I adored “Us”, because it made me think continuously about it long after I saw it. The same affect that “Get Out” and M. Night’s “Sixth Sense” had on me. That “what if” that goes through our minds. The storytelling is superb. I’ve read reviews where ppl are stating that parts are “unrealistic”, including characters reactions. I found this to be purposely done with Peele’s direction. It’s a point that’s not to be missed, especially with the ending twist. Peele is making sure you watch the film twice, maybe over and over. There are clues you’ll notice that you didn’t before. If you feel that you’ve missed something, it’s because you did. “Us” is a poem, a Shakespearean tragedy. There is really no villain in the movie. There are the people below ground who are eternally suffering and no free will. There are people overground with free will. It’s about how we treat others “beneath” us. What we create. How we treat ourselves. The scene with Elisabeth Moss’ character tether cutting her face... if you didn’t get this then you weren’t paying attention to the movie and missed a whole conversation. This is a film that desires your full attention. There’s so much depth. Ppl who don’t like to read, or think too much, no this isn’t for you... Stick to the superhero films.
