First thing I'd like to say is...take notes Astruc. No offense, but this is how you write a movie.
I LOVE the Miraculous Movie! Initially when I heard it was going to be a musical, I was a little skeptical not gonna lie. I thought a superhero action movie was going to be a little ridiculous, utterly ridiculous, but Jeremy Zag proved me wrong.
The animation was so beautiful! It reminded me the first time I watched the show when it first came out. I also loved Marinette's evolution in this movie! How she started from a shy girl who was afraid of facing things and people such as Chloe to a fearless heroine. I also made a note how they changed the way Adrien thought of himself as Cat Noir. He did almost have a little ego though, which was a bit cocky for my taste.
Let's move on to the Agreste Arc. This is something that could definitely be improved in the show, but the movie did this PERFECTLY. It answered all the questions that us Miraculous fans have been waiting for YEARS. And I like how this movie didn't portray Gabriel as a total monster. He was just lost and broken, driven by grief to bring Emilie back.
(SPOILER AHEAD) When Gabriel found out that he was actually fighting his son in the final battle, I loved how it just suddenly opened his eyes that he wasn't the one hurting. Adrien needed to be loved too, and he needed a parent figure. I prefer this ending rather than the show any day.
Although there are a few unanswered questions I have such as this:
1) What happened to Gabriel after he was revealed to Paris as Hawk Moth? Did he go to jail or did he get the emotional help he needed?
2) In the post-credit scene, we see that Gabriel gives Nathalie instructions to keep his secret which shows that Emilie is in the basement. That sparks the question if Nathalie knew all along or she knew after the fact he was revealed because this is Zag's retelling of the Miraculous universe.
3) Question #2 leads me to my last question. What would the sequel be about? Now that Marinette and Adrien know each other's identities, then what? Also, would the sequel do good like the first movie or even better?
In short, I thought that this movie was pretty good. I wonder if the whole show was rebooted with this animation, would it do better than the show right now? I recommend it. It'll make you laugh, shout, and even cry if you're a crier.
