We MST3000 our way through it. A parrot to talk to would have been nice (I leave the world behind with Kiwi). I called the ending and we erupted in laughter. Let's face it, not everyone is cut out to save the world a lot (zoom out from the Buffy close up). Maybe that is for the best? At least you aren't disappointing any deer that way.
I get the message, I really do, and kudos for trying, but it was still 2 1/2 hours of my life that could have been spent better, and I much prefer my oil tankers with Dennis Hopper throwing canned Spam.
People who think they are smart will like this movie for the message and avoid talking about the clunky dialogue, derivative subtext, and implausible execution. These characters did not come off as "real people". It was good actors being stifled by shallowness and unnecessary repetition. A big wow to the science. 1619mhz, really? (yes, I caught that reference, as well as White Lion, but mhz instead of khz cheapens it) An oil tanker running aground all the way to the beach? Eastern deer having their migration altered? (They don't migrate). Two pills of ? helping a kid with an unknown illness.
There is only so much disbelief someone can suspend before the story gets lost.
