Not a fan. Its just Nancy Drew meets Scooby Doo within a ho-hum educational framework straight out of X-Men, Harry Potter, Miss Peregrine's, Buffy, etc.
I haven't heard any of the clever line writing or delivery of the original TV series or the movies. For better writing and delivery truer to the tone of Addams... find 'Adult Wednesday Addams' on Youtube.
The character of Wednesday suddenly has martial arts training and the gift of visions? Yikes. I expect her to be expert with foil and saber and knife throwing and poisons and intimidation...but she would never deign to touch another person directly. And the visions are an obvious device to cover for poor storytelling.
I do like Enid. She seems to have borrowed her presentation quite a bit from Tatiana Maslany's character in 'Ginger Snaps 2", but that is not a bad thing. Both were endearing and sympathetic whilst having a simmering energy for mayhem. Oddly, while being a werewolf...Enid has retractable kitty claws. Was that really the best device choice for a female character in 2022?
Luis Guzman is a staple of film and TV, turning in some excellent work....but as Gomez he is given nothing to do and no direction in the things he is given.
Morticia could have been played by a paper cut-out.
It was nice to see Ricki Lindhome and Christina Ricci...but again they are given little to do.
And of course shoehorning in 'The Message' of gender neutral bathrooms, 'Eugene Has Two Mommies', lesbians on the dance floor, and the whole white washing history speech delivered (of course) in German just made it clear the writing budget was spent on box-tickers.
The few episodes I watched had Tim Burton listed as director. That's a typo, right?
