It's ok but doesn't feel like an Alien film. We watched the others in chronological order (up to Alien the night before) in preparation but I think it actually made it worse! It's more of a side story than part of the actual series and just doesn't have that x factor that makes the others so good. Not much atmosphere and just a bit rehashed - no shocks or edge of your seat suspense, just a bit predictable with familiar dialogue and a very young cast. Having said that, the actor playing the android does an excellent job and really elevates the rest of the film, and the effects were good. Overall I would say it felt like a teenage horror movie (don't go into the basement! 🤣) which they decided to set in space and tried to wedge into the Alien series. It would have been better to make it as a standalone and invent their own alien as I think all fans of the films will come away slightly disappointed. Definitely not up to the standard of the originals or the recent prequels in our humble opinions, but a decent enough watch if you don't go in expecting an Alien film 🙂
