Very disappointed in the deviations from the book. Especially disappointed in the need to modernize the historical fiction setting. The core of the story is the plight of women and inequality in status in the workplace. In the book I loved the character Harriet. She is a middle age plain and overweight white woman with a loser husband, not an attractive, petite, black lawyer trying to fight a highway being built through the neighborhood. That is an unnecessary modernization of the storyline. Wake ly should have been portrayed as written. Rowing needed to be a bigger part of the show. Why change the story regarding his mother? Disappointed
