It’s two bad movies in one! There’s George Clooney doing a present-day David Letterman physical impersonation. The illogic begins at the beginning. After serving up excruciating detail about his character’s illness, plus his responsibility for his new travel companion, even the movie gets bored with them and drops them both, like, shall I say, a snowmobile through thin ice. Then there’s the space movie, where a crew of 5 manage a huge spaceship. Typically, depressingly, the Black crew gets killed or dissed (a captain whose rank and power isn’t acknowledged, let alone respected?)! And supposed scientists who, when presented with overwhelming evidence, still make suicidal choices? If this was meant to be metaphorical, it doesn’t work even as a metaphor. Nothing makes sense.
