Just as another reviewer said, “two stars for trying.”
The premise of the movie is fantastic, but the way it was written and made… not so much. It’s bland. It over explains some while also under explaining others. The pacing is horrific, and the characters weren’t fleshed out enough for me to care about them.
The family was shown, broken, and suddenly we were onto our main plot. We weren’t even given a SECOND to absorb what the family was like, or what really happened to Sam. While it does somewhat describe the grief the parents go through when losing a child, it genuinely makes our main character look insane. He doesn’t seem like he’s grieving, he’s doing more than that. He’s spiraling. But it’s not a slow fall into madness at all, he mentions the effect to his wife and suddenly he’s losing his mind.
The ending was better than expected, but overall the movie was poorly paced, confusing and overstimulating. Very upsetting.
