A good sequel. I loved seeing the updated effects.
Rewatching the original last night, you can tell it’s definitely dated in some spots, specifically when Barbara And Adam are running through the sand, you can clearly see the green screen used. But to see the claymation work of the sandworm paired with today’s cgi was really cool. Same with Danny devitos look. You can tell they really nailed the sfx makeup and the editing made it really cool to watch. Loved all the call backs. Loved seeing Catherine O’Hara again.
The theater I went to loved it. We had a ton of super fans dressing up. Everyone was laughing. Even some parts I didn’t necessarily love, being in a theater of fans made it feel better.
~some minor spoilers~
However, there was too many storylines that felt like it was taking away from really fleshing out the main storyline. I felt like Delores could’ve been left out completely. I also felt like there could’ve been more interactions with beetle juice and Jenna’s character.
I was wondering if they were gonna make him creepier this movie, you know since he was trying to force a child to marry him in the first movie, but I do appreciate that they kept his focus on Lydia as a grown woman and even made it so that beetlejuice was a little more lovable. Like a lying manipulator could be worse than a “demon”.
But it was definitely lacking anything scary on beetlejuices end. No shrimp hands grabbing faces or snake stair railings.
