I’ll keep it short(ish) since so many others have talked at length about how good this movie was. The cliffhanger was 100% a necessary evil. The story they want to tell is longer than I think they anticipated and they accommodated that. They didn’t shorten it or cut content to make it more digestible, but they also didn’t push out the release date even further and have the movie be five hours long. It was the right decision, and that’s a hill I will die on.
They were willing to make a choice like that— a choice that money-hungry corporations looking for mass appeal might not make in fear of losing profit— to preserve the integrity of the story. They didn’t feel the need to follow the basic three-act structure, and for the type of world-building they did in this movie I think that was incredibly smart. They’re taking all the time they need to adequately explain the multi verse and I commend them for that. I like the way that they’re using the whole “spider destiny” plotline in a way that’s different from other movies with this concept. Movies dealing with fate or any sort of butterfly-affect seem to always end with the message that you shouldn’t interfere with destiny. This movie is challenging that.
