I want to add to the reviews of this movie of which I took my two granddaughters, 11 and 7. Unlike me they are familiar with the series and goosebumps 1 movie. They were very excited as we got in our seats.
Although I didn’t comment much on the movie with them besides agreeing that ‘it was so scary!’.
I could not help but feel negative about the double whammy of a missing father and a cheating boyfriend. The young girl’s character was inconsistent, though she was initially presented as someone who had her act together. Distrusted and misunderstood by her mother, but then asked by her mother to be responsible and sacrificial in the care of her brother home and hearth continued the inconsistency of character and the situation remained misleading and distrustful. Then this girl who I had felt a little sorry for, broke her promise to her mother, was sarcastic and unhelpful to her brother in his quest for her help to get his homework done then told him to lie to cover up for her as she went to a club in search of her boyfriend. Huh?
While trying to save them all from the dummy and his army this young girl came across as bossy, abrupt and demanding, definitely not someone interested in team work and providing leadership in crisis management.
I thought to myself I know a lot of young women in management today who act this way.
Very poor to none character development, negative character traits and qualities. Destructive to society and young minds for sure.
I don’t know if these decisions were the writer’s or the director’s but I know for sure there is no way I would ever give a dime for them to produce another movie.
If you are taking your kids to see this be on the lookout.
