The movie has its merits and demerits, I know in as much as it is inaccurate, Our Father will use it for conviction, and there are people whom this movie will inspire to seek God
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28 (KJV)
That being said the producer should have tried his best to stick to the original accounts, because in every detail in the bible, there is a meaning behind it, a simple comma can change the message intended, same goes with the omissions and additions in the movie. He should trust that God will convict people’s hearts with the closest true account and not just fit it to what the modern world views it to be.
2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
Deuteronomy 4:2 (KJV)
5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit, and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.
1 Thessalonians 1:5 (NIV)
I would like to point out a few inconsistencies;
The movie says;
To your descendants, I will give this land
The Bible says;
For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
Genesis 13:15 (KJV)
When God said ‘’thy seed’’ He meant Jesus Christ here the producer has changed the whole meaning of this conversation, and thus the intended message. It is figurative rather than literal as Apostle Paul clarified in the Book of Galatians.
16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,”[i] meaning one person, who is Christ. 17 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. 18 For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.
Galatians 3:16-18 (KJV)
The movie says;
It’s an act of penance for some great sin (Abraham heeding Sarah’s advice to have Ishmael)
The Bible implies;
1. Test of Faith in God
2. It is symbolic of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God’s beloved son. Isaac was figuratively dead (when God commanded Abraham to sacrifice him, his sentence had been passed), and by God providing a substitute, he was risen, Jesus died on the cross and rose on the third day. Isaac and Jesus were both divine births, children born of the promise, they both carry wood on their backs, which are instruments of their ‘’death’’ and God provides a lamb as a substitute, one is a physical lamb and the latter is the lamb of God.
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Matthew 3:17 (KJV)
The movie says;
Your master is not as righteous as he claims
The Bible says;
6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
Genesis 15:6 (KJV)
6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
Galatians 3:6 (KJV)
I pray the movie blesses you and inspires you to pick up a bible and get to know God personally.
