I do agree with some of the reviews that the first two episodes are a bit of a slow burn, but episode three really drew me in. If you’ve seen The Clone Wars, then you were probably just as excited as I was to see a coven of witches working magic.
Episode Five has some of the best fight choreography and violence in Star Wars live action I’ve ever seen. The whole episode was dedicated to action, which certainly makes up for the slow pacing of the first two episodes. I’m sure this was intentional, as the hard core, intense violence (for Star Wars) was a welcomed change in pace.
The rest of the season continues to pace well and the story plays out (with some minor cliff hangers at the conclusion). The fight choreography will standout as some of the best in Star Wars history without a doubt. Fighting aside, we saw some cool things pulled from legends while meeting new characters without changing canon/continuity. The first live action Wookiee Jedi (you see him fight in episode 7).
Part way through, audiences may find themselves questioning things (plot/motives/etc), but the story continues to build and major questions are answered as you progress through the season. You may see some plot twists coming a mile away, but that’s nothing new for Star Wars.
I think this show is being unjustly review-bombed for casting POCs and women (as evidenced by many reviews citing a “leftist” or “woke” agenda in the show, which is wild). This is a different take on Star Wars for sure (a welcomed take for some fans). Because this show is set in a different era with new characters outside of the Skywalker saga, things are bound to feel different.
I recommend ignoring the review bombs and giving this show a chance if you enjoy Star Wars. Definitely makes me want a season two!
