Didnt make it to halfway through episode 1; came to google to read reviews, and my suspicions were confirmed: Different writers for this project and a guise of a plot. Do NOT let the 5 star reviews fool you! Show opens up with Richter‘s mom, taking him to board a ship bound for France in order to keep him safe from increasing vampiric attacks. Within the first few minutes of the show, his mother comes into contact with a familiar villain, engages in a fierce battle, only to get into a tight spot and GIVE UP letting herself be killed in front of her son. There are so many issues with this overplayed trope, to include the fact that Richter should definitely be aware of this villain, with the fact that he has a revenge vendetta against his mother, and yet he will fully ignores her please to get to the ship/safety and ultimately becomes the reason for her death. Then, we the audience, are made to , feel sorry for him and watch his growth when he is LITERALLY the reason for her death due to him, choosing not to listen and obey her, full knowing the hazards of her chosen profession.
