I'm fed up with people losing their rag in the Google reviews, moaning about another blonde, blue-eyed actress when they want a dark-haired, dark-eyed, non white girl. Apparently, the film's boring because it doesn't obsess over our differences. Good stories, on the other hand, focus on what unites us, the slow blossoming of love, young romance, heartbreak, the connection between the actors, the hurdles they overcome together, the love they endlessly celebrate, the fights they put up. These are the moments that stay with us, because we don't want to be patronised or lectured to. We want to be swept away on a poppylove adventure, to fantasise about being our favourite hero or heroine. We want to feel something, dammit! And a connection has nothing to do with the colour of someone's skin, hair or eyes, and everything to do with the skill and talent of the writers, directors, actors, editors, songwriters - all the artists who come together to create magic. And that's what this film delivers. It's far more entertaining and beautifully done than most of the modern, soulless rubbish out there.
