Watched this movie the other night and decided to look up the reviews for it and was surprised to see how highly rated it was.
There were too many ideas thrown into this movie and none of them were well executed. It didn’t seem scary at all. Below are things wrong with the movie, but this include spoilers, so don’t read on if you intend to watch the movie.
SPOILERS
Firstly, the girl he is looking after is made out to be come crazy girl with mental issues and has issues with him going near her room. When we meet her she seems perfectly normal and talks to him without issue. He goes near her room multiple times and she doesn’t react weirdly. There was seemingly no reason for him to wear that leash thing. Obviously at the end she is a bit unhinged but it wasn’t scary in the slightest.
The rabbit doll she had didn’t really serve much purpose at all. It wasn’t explained why this creepy doll had any connection to the mother or why she knew how to use it to find her mum. Seems like it was just added because people like putting creepy dolls in movies.
The main guy had memory issues and couldn’t remember ever going to the house. He had a scar on the back of his head, but none of this was ever explained. You’d think forgetting about your past or something you’ve done would be something they’ve revisit in the movie but it was basically ignored.
There was were little paranormal events that happened in the movie, there was hardly a build up of weird things happening. And then suddenly at the end the mum comes back alive and kills the guy, which was just kind of stupid.
None of the ideas they had in the movie were built upon reslly.
And the girl hunting the guy in the house with a cross bow, she fires a shot and misses and then she stands there struggling to reload the weapon and the guy just does nothing. He could have easily stopped her but just decided to slowly close the door. There was no suspense.
They also under-utilised the chain he was attached to. It could have been used to drag him down into the basement or something which would have been scarier than anything else that happened in this movie.
Overall, it feels like too many ideas were thrown into this movie that they’ve seen used in other movies but none of them were used well.
