There’s only so much your cast can do with a clumsy retelling of a variation of Hamlet’s (Amleth’s) tale. The cinematography was blah (overly fogged and filtered), the special effects were average (some rotoscoping that was amateurish), and the fight scene choreography was clunky (there were many obvious discontinuities). Overall a really great job at hyping the hell out of a film, only to have it fail to meet expectations from the very beginning. So much for under promising and over delivering . . . just the opposite is true for The Northman.
