If you have ADHD watching this film you’ll have no chance to enjoy it. My boyfriend and I frequently became distracted and couldn’t follow the majority of the film. I’m sure if we had the opportunity to see it in theaters it would have better captured our attention.
That being said, I was a survivor of child abuse and this film did have those frightening elements and feelings you get as a kid suffering through this. It captures the way a parent can have a punishing and disturbingly cruel part of them that a child is having difficulties understanding. Especially the scene where the mom is sitting on the bed and tells the child to close their eyes and disappears into the hallway as if she’s not proud of what she’s about to become.
If you have issues with trauma from childhood abuse I suggest you do not watch this as it can be triggering. But it doesn’t really capture your attention that much to cause much mental strain either so. I think I might play this as background noise for my Halloween party this year.
