The great achievements of the Indian national football team deserve better than this incredibly boring movie.
The climax was hilariously underwhelming. Imagine if an action movie where the hero kills the main villain as swiftly as he kills all the goons. That's what the ending of this movie is like, because the final victory doesn't feel any different from the other victories the team had, except for the BGM getting so loud that it nearly explodes your eardrums with the most boring inspirational music of all time. The director had no faith in us, the audience, that we would be able to decide how to feel during the climax, or even be smart enough to deduce when the climax was happening, so they use music and Zack Snyder levels of slow motion to tell you how to feel. In fact, the BGM is obnoxiously overwhelming in 75-90% of this movie. Please respect the audience's intelligence and let us decide how to feel about events happening in the movie, instead of telling us how to feel with the music. The music is supposed to support the movie, not carry it entirely, but I think more people would realize how bad this movie is if the music wasn't there. Also, the snap zooms in the first act were obnoxious.
And if you try to tell me "don't criticize what you don't understand" let me reply by saying that we are allowed to criticize murderers even if we have never killed anyone.
Also, if you try to defend this movie with "it's based on a true story" then let me ask you this: if I made a movie about filing my taxes, would that be a good movie, just because it actually happened? No, that movie would be bad, because there are more important things about the quality of a story than whether the events in the story actually happened.
Also, if you try to defend the movie with "it's teaching the audience about something" then I want you to imagine the worst movie you've ever seen. Can't think of one? Fine, take Race 3. Nobody likes Race 3. Now imagine if Salman Khan said at the end: "and remember kids, don't do cigarettes." It's a good message, but would that redeem the movie? No, Race 3 would still be a garbage movie, because there are more important things about the quality of a story than whether the story has a good message. It's about how you convey that message.
Also, Ajay Devgn acts like the same character he's been playing for the last decade. When was the last time Ajay Devgn didn't play a stoic God who preaches platitudes and never makes mistakes? Apaharan? Please, Ajay Devgn, in the slim chance that you're reading this, stop being complacent and try different roles. You are a talented actor, just do something interesting. It's getting as boring as seeing Amir Khan in college.
