Rarely do reviews but I had to vent after the gruelling 3hrs+ duration of the film. Positives Firstly, the film is stunning. Beautiful CGI and you feel like you are on Pandora. It gives much more of a feel of it being a planet rather than a region(which I felt for the first one). Unfortunately that’s the only positive. Negative There are a number of issues I have with this film. Lazy lazy writing, very poor character development, the plot was so dragged out and was very predictable. The stunning visual effects were the only distraction from these flaws, which was not enough. The film could be cut way shorter and felt bloated with unnecessary, useless scenes. The entire plot of the humans being the bad guys invading a sacred planet, fighting the blue good guys was simply repeated but with the first film doing far better a job. I think the main issue with this film is that there was just too much of everything. Too many characters, too many scenes, too many sub narratives. I wow factor I got from the first avatar was gone after how developed cgi has become since avatar was first released, we are used to cutting edge cgi, although the cgi was amazing. The humans in this film were so dumb had very little believable motive, barely strategised and were predictable. I’ve run out of energy writing this to finish, well done if you got this far. I would recommend seeing this film as it is a must watch cinematic experience. Just come into it with very low expectations to avoid any disappointment!
