Spoiler Alert.
Out of all the genre movies Ive ever seen the bicentennial man is my favourite.
Simply because it touches on so many aspects of humanity.
You get to witness a newly assembled robot activated for the first time and as he begins to interact with his environment.
His basic program is inadequate and not able to explain the unpredictable behaviour of humans and this causes him to evolve above and beyond his program.
After he wears clothes, seeks his freedom and says goodbye to his owner and friend who passes away.
He starts out on a quest to find other androids just like himself so he can have family and friends and stumbles across the son whose father was the inventor of the NDR model and together they are able to upgrade his android anatomy.
This starts him on a new journey and he begins to imitate and explore all aspects of his humanity.
As he grows and evolves he notices he is not accepted by everyone and becomes dissatisfied with the definition of a sentient being and stands before Congress to challenge this criteria citing he is able to meet it.
Congress points out to him that his artificial anatomy can out live humans so his request to be accepted as a sentient being is denied.
He comes to the conclusion growing old with the person you love and one day dying is the greatest expression of your humanity regardless if you are an android or human.
He requests that blood be transfered to his artificial anatomy so he can age and die completing his journey.
This movie reflects and tells the story through the eyes of an android.
That even when humans create an interactive appliance to serve there needs.
That applance evolved and imatated human behaviour because he just wanted to be accepted, treated fairly, and become like his creator.
So his creator would be proud of him.
Exploring the values and vulnerabilities of humanity.
I thought the concepts and exploration of the movie were brilliant.
As for the critics there feedback confirmed the clear message in the movie.
Many people face discrimination inequality and prejudandice regardless of the law and rights.
This is a journey many people can relate too and there struggle to be accepted treated fairly and to challenge and amend legislation.
That includes and considers there rights and freedom to equality and happiness.
Hollywood' is only interested in there own agenda and what message they can control in the public's mind.
Hence the criticism or promotion of a movie.
