Thor: Love & Thunder is not a sequel to its predecessor Thor: Ragnarök so much as it is a Disney funded vanity project dedicated to the self-centered interests & self-absorbed hubris of its director & principal writer Taika Waititi. Ironically in Free Guy, Taika Waititi plays a vapid, narcissistic, & entitled interactive gaming director who clearly doesn't understand the product he has control over or its degree of sophistication because it was created by others & never his to begin with. So while they revered it & attempted to nurture & safeguard it he belittled it, made numerous attempts to downgrade & dumb it down & at the end was instinctively willing to literally destroy it just to have his own way & appease his ego. Taking into account the full context of his dialogue going into the production of Thor: Love & Thunder as well as the final result that came out on the other end it’s obvious he was not even acting in Free Guy but simply channeling himself into the character if not foreshadowing his modus operandi when granted the authority & discretion to do so. Disney reminds me of those with voter’s remorse who put Trump in the White House & then were shocked when he behaved & acted as he always had & dialed it up. Putting somebody in a position of responsibility doesn’t necessarily compel them to be responsible but instead oftentimes conveys impunity to their reckless impulse. I’m reminded of the all-u-can-eat buffets I’ve been to where they offer a single bin of popcorn shrimp & the guests who would cut through line & jockey to get several heaping scoops onto their plates to ensure they got their fair share before it ran out. Taika Waititi has offered up a buffet overflowing with nothing but popcorn shrimp & it’s enough to make you retch & vomit just looking at it. Kevin Feige is fiddling while directors unsympathetic to if not derisive of Marvel canon & mythos burn the Disney MCU down.
