Great tribute to the legend Ray. All 4 episodes have their own soul.
1st & 2nd episode by Srijit Mukherjee are brilliant. Ali Faizal & Kay Kay Menon nailed their characters. Its from a bong director & to be proud off. Its from a man who grew up on Ray’s stories & films. Not sure why critics (including Bengali so called movie lover critics) are rating these lowest of the 4, but I believed Srijit got the right essence. In fact I believe after a long time I loved Srijit’s direction (my favourite being Baishe srabon, Nirbaak & Chotuskone). Great job, netflix.
3rd episode by Abhishek Chaubey is the episod that everyone is raving about. This is indeed very different than what Abhishek’s gems like Sonchiriya, Ishqia & Udta Punjab. It has got its own charm, a very fresh adaptation, brilliantly performed by Manoj Bajpayee, Gajraj Rao & Manoj Pawa. This one is a gem in true sense.
4th episode by Vasant Bala is a mixed bag for me. While it has got several references to Ray’s films & religious dogmatism similar to Ray’s DEVI, but the narrative wasn’t convincing enough. Although there are good moments, but those are far fetched. Still a good attempt. Harshvardhan & Radhika did a good job.
Still this is one of the best Anthologies from NETFLIX. I hope we have more seasons in future.
