Yes, this is a minimalist sci fi film, but it isn't small in developing the process of kindness om action among people whom their town ignored or stereotyped. I have no problem with the way it ended. Having Jules fix all their problems is cliche. Having him invited them to join him then dropping them off before leaving earth was quite lovely and realistic - they needed to be home. I think everyone seems to have missed the very end - the light - that indicated Jules might have returned. I liked the ambiguity, the smallness of the characters'' interactions, and the acceptance that this was a very brief but meaningful encounter. It was quite charming and quite hopeful. The three humans built something they didn't have before - friendship. And that was quite enough.
