This is one of the worst books I've ever read. So many signs targeting women and talking about negative things. This whole vignette thing makes the book confusing and doesn't make sense at all. I usually really like biographies and historical books, but this book was not it. I know this book was supposed to talk about minorities in America, but I did not get that message, this book is a disgrace. I know it talks about Mexicans as minorities but still targets other races like Asians and Black people in the book. This was a painful reading experience for me since I'm Asian, it's uncomfortable to keep reading but I have to read it in my language arts class. I also hate that this book has no beginning, middle and end, not a whole story and has no meaning. This book also makes sexual assault as it's ok and doesn't spread awareness about how wrong it is. I don't like the main character Esperanza. Her character trait seems immature and spoiled, even at the end of the book, she did not grow to be a better and more mature person, which bothers me. I am very disappointed with this book and wasted my time on it.
