This “book” critiques the idea of humanity triumphing over climate change and avoiding our impending apocalyptic demise. Franzen suggest we should focus on making our world a better one, for now and the future. We likely will not win this war – let’s be real – however, we can aim to live better in the aftermath of our own undoing. A world where respect is given a received to all people places and things. Sadly, our future does not look too bright, however, it is certainly possible to make the doom less gloomy.
This all seems a bit confusing though, a critique of optimism that aims to incite optimism. I suppose the direction of said optimisms, is really what Jonathan is talking about.
I can understand why you may not understand. But I think that’s what makes this book so good and you should read it. He goes against the grain with a good message, and I love that stuff. I enjoy hearing or seeing different takes on subjects. It gives me the ability to make up my own mind. Which evidently, I cannot comprehend nor dictate.
Enough of me trying to sound smart… goodbye x
