When it came out in 1970 it was hyped as the LOVE STORY of the century. Why? Because she dies? There is no time for plot development, as they meet, marry, and part within a very short period of time. Love Story certainly made Ryan O'Neil a huge star for many years, while Ali McGraw had a much shorter run on the marquee. At the age of 14 my girlfriends and I saw it the day it opened! It certainly made all the little girls tears flow, but as a long grown-up woman- I find it
boring, predictable, and not worth watching. The character of Jenny is developed as a cursing, weirdo- who you come to see has much more to her, as expressed through her music. Ryan O'Neil's character is never developed, yet his strong performance makes him the memorable persona. The best thing about this movie is the beautiful, haunting, theme song. Once you hear it, you will never forget it.
One of the most beautiful movie themes ever written!
