Disappointed in what is essentially a poorly-guided cash grab for nostalgic audiences.
To start, this movie isn't "bad" per say, but it is not a good remake whatsoever. Hans Zimmer never disappoints with his compositions and the visuals were stunningly realistic but the latter greatly limits the capacity to tell the original story effectively.
Part of the reason the original 1994 "The Lion King" was so beloved was the classic art and animation style that allowed hyperbolized expressions and actions to take place. These exaggerations would help solidify characters and accentuate their emotions, which allowed for a much deeper connection with the story and characters. Such a connection feels entirely absent in this film, making for many underwhelming moments in the story that, in the original, would have carried much more weight. Other than this significant crutch, everything seems to work, although some story elements feel worse than the original.
Doesn't deserve more than a 6/10, it's okay, but heads of production seem to not respect what made the original work.
