While there are definite areas for improvement, this show definitely does the original animation justice. When it shines, it shines brightly.
Think the lesson is you don’t need to cram as much to get the point across and tell a beautiful story. Example is the spirited away episode. There was no need to bring Wan Shi Tong in this episode. That VFX budget probably would have been better spent on the Avatar Roku sequence.
Some of the newly added stories worked really well. The opening sequence showing Sozin’s plan and the attack on the Air temple was really great. My other favourite bit was the Lu Ten’s funeral scene. Paul SH Lee and Dallas Liu are easily the stars so far.
I really hope Netflix continues to adapt the rest of the story.
