FAKE IS FAKE!
New Australian series Fake premiered on 5th July on Paramount+ to rave reviews and praise for Asher Keddie and David Wenham.
I binge watched this show and kind of enjoyed it, however there are several plot points that just don't cut it, and don't make sense. How is it that both the shack and "Eldorado " are conveniently unoccupied when Joe takes Birdie for a romantic weekend away, and then to look at the property "Eldorado "? Who were the older couple at Eldorado and how is it that the woman there called Joe "a good man"?
Why did the therapist Birdie was seeing gaslight her into thinking she had trust issues and tell her to trust Joe? Not plausible at all!
Joe didn't take the $100,000 that Birdie offered to give him to close the sale of Eldorado (Tara). Why not?! Surely that is the point of scamming women on dating apps. And where did his kids stay when they visited him? He was obviously homeless...
Why did he turn up at a house auction and successfully bid 4.5 million and then run away immediately afterwards? This was pretty random...
Where does Joe get the big wad of cash he flashes around at dinner with the Chinese investors? And yet he is living in an abandoned speedboat.
And finally, why on earth didn't Birdie ask Tessa more about Joe when she asked her about Joe on Facebook and received the message to "run"? Also, any sane woman would have done a background check on Joe and spoken to his business partner in the beginning.
It could have been an excellent series if these points were addressed. This kind of spoiled it for me. Fake is fake!
