What I like about historical fictions is, they often provide reader, an opportunity to closely examine how those historical events affected the human lives in that era. The story begins in the era of Spanish civil war and gives an acc6 of how the war affected common lives on either side. As the war ends those who were supportive of losing side must flee to remain alive with dignity. Thus begins the journey of the protagonist as he takes a leap of faith and embarks the ship to faraway country, Chile. After struggling to settle in this unknown foreign land the protagonist make his home there. He finally finds , his own place on earth he can call home. However poltical events in Chile once again uproots him from his land. The story is told in the backdrop of various political events and how they affect life if protagonist. My first Isabel Allende novel and now I wish to explore her writing more .
