I’m prematurely writting my review with about 19mins of the audio book left.
I read both the physical book whilst listening to the audio book on 1.7x speed. Normally I would listen on 1.8-1.85x speed. I do this as I have several disabilities and practise this daily for my mental health. And only started reading start of last year again, after some time off. (And this book just make me do it again) I feel like I wasted
12 days of my life reading this book because it was so painful to sit down and read with out feeling any form of emotion. It’s an emotionless book and peice of work, felt like a college student using chat gpt.
I had to really slow it down to understand not only what was going on, but just the characters it was to complicated.
So I’m nearing the final two chapters of this books. And this book really has no substance. The writing is terrible. It feels like another “tic tok book” with all the hype and it having a tv show (which I have not watched and most likely won’t watch.)
Their was just no substance to the book, everything was just merely in my eyes under written by the author or it felt like it had been out through something like chatGPT.
I normally can always seem to find a positive to at least a novel however this is my first novel in a long time that I have picked up and just thought their is no substance here… the story lines that are trying to be conceived as “connected” is just very messy.
The characters are hardly described because
Their is 1000 of them mentioned. Which I find in credibly hard to follow in a book only less then 320 pages.
I just think they hype around this is book was awful.
And this pandemic flu thing … I mean it’s really not even present. You hear the word covid more then anything. Or at least walk away thinking it being covid when it’s not.
I just think this book honestly needs to be highly considered like literally an end of the world book/ when you have nothing else to read that is and the world is coming to end and this is the only option.
Their are these little “nods to society” to make it feel relevant like “the young lady didn’t have her meds so she walked off into the woods never to be seen…” and then never any follow up or anything and just stigmatised and very generic and just feels very blah, no substance.
You don’t feel like it’s the end of the world. Even though it’s what it’s trying to convey that their is something happening … but it just doesn’t add up.
The main protagonist his story is just my their is once again no substance to someone who’s character such as his had so much potential to do so much more crazier stuff. The author didn’t even give him a chance gave his dog more a chance.
Overall I hope the author does not write a follow up book to this. It is painfully hard to read.
I’m unsure why this book has been made available. Highly disappointing. It’s really painful to read but have to finish it.
For approx 330 page book the author has tried to put in a whole lot of non substance , with no character development.
This is also the type of material li like to read this dystopia, part sci fi(ish) however they really did not deliver.
