This show is a fresh look at the Star Trek universe. The characters are strong and well written and acted. Most of the old gender and racial assumptions have been written out and new ones replace them. The story itself is exciting and although it explores the usual time traveling, war-mongering, false utopian Rodenberry style future, it does it with an entirely different and unexpected end game. As I said the characters are strong and they will draw you in. I fell in love with the rebellious first officer and the self-righteous engineer and his equally self-righteous, in a different way doctor husband. Liberally bent Hollywood managed to throw in just about every gender available and a couple that will leave you scratching your heads and leave Gene rolling in his grave. But the story does carry the day with the exceptionally talented crew of actors. It is worth the watch if just to see where it takes you.
