The game looks fantastic. No other developer has figured out how to make 3D animation look like hand drawn 2D the way ArcSys has. The Guilty Gear setting and lore is bonkers, but the art direction of the game really makes you forget how weird it is and just accept it for what it is... A really pretty, but wacky fighting game. The best way to describe it is "imagine if 'Heavy Metal' magazine was made into a video game by Japanese artists and somehow it really worked out and rocked even harder".
Gameplay wise... Some fans of the series will complain it is dumbed down and slow compared to older entries, but I honestly think it hits the sweet spot for me in terms of mechanical density, aggressiveness, combo length and amount of neutral play. Definitely worth getting, even for players new to the traditional 2D fighting game genre. The only possible downsides are sparse single player mode options and some clunky lobbies. Once you enter a match though, the rollback netcode is phenomenal.
