What a great film in all aspects. Writing, the performances, directing. Hugh Jackman is captivating and vulnerable in a way that propels the story beyond mere entertainment. This is an important film. That it averaged 3.5 stars here shows how basically dumb audiences have become. If there are no explosions or super-hero fantasies being pandered to, if it exposes subject matter that is painful to think about, a film like this is rejected by a large swath of viewers. That is sad because this is art in every sense of the word.
