As a Gen-Xer, I had mixed feelings about the film.
I found a bunch of Hollywood actors that I once admired obsessing over how one journalist portrayed The Brat Pack to be a bit insufferable in the current era were are living in, particularly Andrew McCarthy himself, but it was also an entertaining look behind the scenes.
Ali Sheedy seems particularly likable and well-adjusted, almost the opposite of the character she played in The Breakfast Club, and her interaction with Andrew McCarthy seemed genuine. Clearly, many of the others didn’t really want to be part of the movie or had moved on years ago from being called “brats.”
The scene where Andrew McCarthy interviews the journalist who coined the term “Brat Pack,” David Blum, was the most interesting part of the film. I would recommend watching it for that alone as it’s a transformative moment for McCarthy.
Was disappointed at how many of the other actors - Molly Ringwald and Judd Nelson - didn’t choose to participate. It speaks volumes about how they feel about the whole thing.
