This is a very well thought out movie. For one that has been married any time at all, it brings up issues which I believe are universal. The tenderness and service Arthur and Joan Brennan show and do for each other only when the other is not aware may not be circumstances that exist in every marriage, but they certainly have widespread echoes. The guilt that drove Arthur to consider and nearly attempt suicide is true to life also. I wonder if the low ratings critics gave this film came because it struck too close to home. I thought the acting was superb and the emotions conveyed convincing. Yes there were some unrealistic factors in the plot, such as Arthur being able to walk after his fall down the cliff, resulting in being impaled by a stick, but we can maybe attribute that to the power of the forest, which was indeed part of the setting. I really like Matthew McConaughey, and this was in my opinion, the best of him I've seen. I thought Ken Watanabe was also brilliant in the show. (It was very handy that he happened to speak excellent English)
