Disappointingly awful. Little attempt is made to give a historical narrative to the era. There is no mention of the Peninsular War, the Italian campaign, the strategic importance of the French defeats at the battles of the Nile & Trafalgar etc etc. Much of the seemingly endless 157 minute run time is wasted on scenes if Boney bonking Josephine, one could almost be watching a pornographic costume drama. The battle scenes are full of gory blood and guts but display precious little authenticity; Napolean leads cavalry charges at Borodino & Waterloo, really! Ridley Scott has made some very good epic films, sadly this isn't one of them.
