People seem to have forgotten what the characters of good a feature film are. It should, first and foremost, be based on a story with characters with complex personalities and an "arc" - in other words, how events through the movie bring out the differing nature of various characters.
In the movie Manjummel Boys, there is total lack of such character development. It is a fictionalized depiction of an event - an embellished documentary.
Malaylam cinema used to pride itself to have received the services of stalwarts like M. T. Vasudevan Nair, Padmarajan, Bharathan, Lohithadas and Sreenivasan. Since the last decade, story and screenplay are disregarded in favor of feigned realism that new filmmakers have adopted.
Malayalam has already lost its crown as the best cinema among Indian languages. Manjummel Boys is just another slide in to the abyss.
