With a live-action movie remake, casting is critical. We are not disappointed with Will Smith's remake of Robin Williams' genie. Both did a bang up job of bringing the character to life in both the original and remake. However, the movie falls flat with the casting of Mena Massoud for Aladdin. He just doesn't live up to Scott Weinger's original enthusiasm and exuberance. Add to that Disney's current penchant for denying the plausibility of romance and chucking it in favor of 'female power' and this movie is basically no fun. Save your money to buy a nice copy of the original.
