I won’t say that a severe dislike of the show implies racism or discomfort with provoking thoughts, but reading a lot of these 1 star reviews... well it wouldn’t be too far off.
For those that say that it’s “too political” or completely disregards the source material - it’s abundantly clear you either didn’t read, or understand the Watchmen comics (you immediately lose any credit if you think the movie was a better homage than this show). Moore has commented on the Anti-Reaganism themes in his comic, among other politically and culturally divisive themes. To make a Watchmen tv show with little to no implicit social or political commentary would be outrageous, and a true disgrace to the comic.
If you think the white guys are the “bad guys” in the show, you may not be capable of following the carefully crafted plot line with direct parallels to the comics and wonderful Easter eggs that make this mystery engaging and thrilling. The 7th Kavalry is what you get when you leave the writings of a hypocrite moral extremist like Rorschach (who only saw the world in shades of black and white) behind for interpretation by groups who feel oppressed.
The cinematography, soundtrack, and acting, all make for a riveting story telling experience that always left me craving the next episode. Akin to the comics, none of the characters are without their flaws, and it will leave you wondering what it means to be a “hero”.
