Jake Walters

This show was clearly written for 20 year olds and younger (which I am) who think the edgiest thing you can do is to be self-flagellatory because of your skin colour, make blanket statements about everyone, and use Marxist cliches against capitalism. "Neoliberal fascists"? Really? The whole thing reeks of faux-intellectualism, snarkiness, and the opinions of a 18 year old uni student who just learnt the word "pedagogy". Of course almost all of these sins could be forgiven if their had been anything which resembled a funny joke. But unfortunately the attempt to use "comedy" to cure the world was a failed one in this case.

I was watching this show with a friend and I was disturbed by her response. As someone who has read the novel, the philosophical underpinnings made sense to me, but for my friend who hadn't read it, all she could conclude was how great New London would be and how she doesn't understand the characters protestations. It seems we are so close to Huxleys Brave New World, that it's themes seem somewhat commonplace.
