Huge map. The lack of transport options or fast travel points mean that you spend more time getting from point A to B than actually doing anything useful. The other annoying thing is that you can spend loads of time clearing out the cartel from points on the map (eg fortified base) only to come back later in the game to find they’re all back as if you were never there. So unless you stick to the story missions, you’re wasting your time. Far cry was better in that once you “liberated” certain locations that’s it. No more enemies to deal with. The lack of “explosive” weapons, like RPGs, is annoying too. They would’ve come in handy against helicopters.
Your team members are bit useless apart from the sync shot facility. They are constantly lagging behind. Waiting for them to get in the car took ages until I realised you can just drive off without them. Then they suddenly appear out of thin air.
One of the biggest problems is that there are very few mission checkpoints. I’m currently stuck on one with Sam Fisher trying to defend him whilst he hacks into this Pc. They could have had a checkpoint after the 10-15 min it takes to infiltrate in undetected. Even after the cut scene, if you get killed it’s right back to 20 min ago.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some fun parts like sniping enemies from hundreds of metres away, but this game could have been much better. And the whole ghost recon thing is a bit of marketing. Those games were far more tactical. Using the whole team order menu whilst in a firefight is a bit tricky.
I got it on sale so I’m not complaining but it ends up becoming tedious and due to the glitches (ie suddenly a mission is just ended??) it gets very frustrating very quickly.
