This is an example of pseudo-science and effective journalism. A young man is making assumptions and misrepresenting thousands of family businesses that focus on sustainability and ethical practices of commercial fishing every year. This is an example of scare tactics and globalized, Americanized, and some references to colonialist ideology and proposed practice. The first thing I thought about when watching this was the EU’s ban on seal hunting. Historical Indigenous practices were portrayed inaccurately in the media and that created a white savior complex that eventually led to the marginalization of millennia long traditional values and practices and the illegal ban of traditional practice. That mindset and perspective is the driver for this documentary and I assume the reasons why the director chose to misrepresent and take out of context so many interview’s and cherry pics statistical information about what are/might be examples of sustainable fishing.
