!SPOILERS!
This movie was amazing! This is the first Disney Pixar movie in history to involve a LGBTQ relationship ( that I’ve noticed anyways) I loved how there was no hiding it. When Alisha comes out about being engaged to a female I thought it would end there but to see that couple together briefly and kissing it was so nice to see, and especially when you see them have a donor baby together. To see this in Disney for first time ever it got me emotional especially after my childhood was in the Disney Princess era where it was all heterosexual couples and also very white culture centred.
Disney is heading in such a great direction. More diversity and inclusion, equality and normalisation of so much things. We have female period pads in the recent Red film and it normalises a girls transition as puberty strikes. I thought I’d never see that. And now we have LGBTQ relationships, donor conceived children, and a lot more characters of different ethnicity. To see that couple who are both female have a child ( including lesbian couple having a donor baby) I didn’t expect that at all, a pregnancy bump too is something I don’t think I’ve seen in a Disney movie. I love how some of the new films have so much realism in them now.
I think the story line of Lightyear was very intense, I got so sucked in and when Izzy is conquering her fears of being in space and has to save Sox I was actually on the edge of my seat and talking to the tv! I loved this movie so much. Buzz says phrases that he uses in the Toy Story movies which made Buzz Buzz in the movie. I worried he’d be so unlike how he is in the Toy Story movies but he was exactly what I was hoping for. He was so funny and greatly animated. Let’s not forget to mention how hilarious and cute Sox is!
Good job Disney!
