Madeleine Huxtable

I enjoyed reading this book. Crime thrillers are my favourites genre. Although not so much a thriller in its true sense, there are two plots running parallel, both of which consistently move along at a cracking pace, each with a satisfactory ending. It seemed to me that Rebus, now a retired detective and in poor health, may be leaving us. The author has two choices from this current book; Malcolm Fox or Siobhan Clark. Brillo, the ever patient dog, added to my enjoyment. It was interesting to read that the “Dark Song” in the title referred to Brexit and Covid 19. I would certainly recommend this book to you.

A Single Thread was a real page turner. Violet Speedwell was remarkable in her resilience to the era of gossip and nasty women who were against anyone who was unmarried and had opinions other than theirs. I applauded her in all she achieved with the broderers and also for her claiming her piece of Arthur to fill her life. I loved the background of the embroidered cushions and kneelers in the cathedral and that they still remain there today. A tear threatened at the christening when Arthur rang the solitary bell. I will be reading more of Ms Chevaliers books in the future.
