Armand Di Meo

This is an absolutely riveting film. I had never heard of Siobhan Fallon Hogan before but she was just exceptional. The fact that she also wrote the screenplay makes her even more praiseworthy. I found the film to poignant and touching but it is also hysterically funny at times. Hogan's Catholic faith obviously influenced the film but she does not beat you over the head with it. I am glad I had the opportunity to escape the Hollywood wasteland and see this film.

I agree that this is an outstanding foreign film and one of the best I have seen this year so far. I found it to be absolutely riveting. Those who criticize the film for lack of character development and emotion missed the point of the film. This young woman was obviously very confused about her own identity and emotions and used alcohol, sex, and wild nightlife to escape from her feelings. If the filmmaker is guilty of a little bit of imitative fallacy, then so be it. This film majors in subtlety. It appears that the protagonist is starting to come to grips with who she is at the end.
