Solo is fun and entertaining, but hardly essential viewing. I had a hard time accepting Alden Ehrenreich in the title role. Sorry, I just can't see anyone else besides Harrison Ford playing him.

Interesting and thought-provoking, but a tad indulgent of Oliver Stone's propensity to lean into conspiracy theories with more guesswork and conjecture than critical thinking and presentation of facts.

Solid family film that is well written, acted, and directed. It's a decent adaptation of the book, too.

This probably deserves between three or four stars out of five, but it gets the nudge upwards because it definitely entertained me. It was almost everything a fan of the games could hope for: dark, edgy, violent, and even a little bit cheesy. Its two watered-down predecessors from the 90s missed the mark and tipped the scales towards cheese and were hurt by their PG-13 ratings. Thankfully, the reboot got the balance right and didn't shy away from an R rating. Is it perfect? No, but it's a worthy adaptation that makes me look forward to the inevitable sequel.
